February's Whiggly Whimsy ~

The last day of February is here, and I have done some work on my quilt top for Terry's sew-along! I knew I still did not want a "just white" background, and I have wanted to use this red square dot print....(I wonder, does anyone recognize it?)   :-}

Looking through my charm square packs, I found 2 of the "Circa 1934" packs, and thought that they would work perfectly for the job.

I'm pretty sure I want to go a bit larger than the 56" finish size the pattern calls for.

 I am adding a bit of this and that; I can't leave well enough alone, lol :-}

~the finished table runner was my practice
of the pattern...again, no plain background~

A Productive Weekend

I have said it before, I sure could get used to having a Monday off. Friday after school, I packed up and went to my dear friends Beth and Jerry's in Calimesa, CA. Beth and I had planned for a sew day, and it was productive.

Doggy "Starr" says hi!

While there, binding was completed on the checkerboard quilt ~

and we worked on a rug for Beth.

She received a few boxes of double knits around Christmas, and she cut 2 1/2 " squares. She drew a grid line on the base of the rug, also double knit, with a 1 inch line that continues around the oval.

We folded the squares into half square triangles, and laid them on top of each other. I sewed from the fold to the point, with about 1 half to 3 quarters inch of spacing- not really an exact science, here.

Larry's mom Barb has done a few of these "burr" rugs--is that what they are called?-- and Beth wanted to try it. I left it there for her to finish. Won't that be a nice rug to step out of the shower on?

I had a good Sunday at church. There was a guest speaker Sunday night and he really touched my heart.

Today, I've a bit of tummy troubles, so I've done chores, cooked and

enjoyed time with this knitting loom-sorry the pictures aren't so good. Lydia and Jeff both are doing these loom scarves, I wanted to give it a go...this is probably the closest I'll come to knitting.

The bright spot in my day is still getting to see this guy on the computer screen ~

*Sigh* I'll be glad to have him home on Friday night...!

What's On the Frame, and I Love Skype!

(this picture was added after my quilt class)

The morning started with my alarm ringing at 5:20 am...wait, don't I have the day off? Oh, right, Larry might call from the Philippines -- and he did! Skype is amazing! His group had returned back to the hotel early (really, 9:30 pm isn't what I call early) and at this hotel he has access to internet in his room! I love getting to see him and talk. His laptop computer is older so we went and purchased him a viewing camera before leaving, and this Momma is happy! They have done church work and sightseeing, including white water rafting (he fell out and lost his wedding rings, lol!) and a zip line! I was concerned for his poor arthritic ankles, but he survived fine. :-}

Well, since I was up, I made use of my day home from work!
Here's the quilt for David and Rajeana, their wedding was February 9.

This is the first block made in the checkerboard process, the blue pokeydots were from scraps given in my quilt class.

It is my first attempt at "low volume"; to me, this one is more just soft tones. 'Jeana likes rose color, and she sews, too. Don't you love these little pink scissors?

It feels good to see the quilt get rolled up on the frame with each pass--

Ta-da! Off the frame! I'm showing it to class tonight ~

I love the back, sorry, maybe I can get a better picture tonight ~
edited to add this photo:

(say hi to Ginny and Nancy, tee-hee!)

And lastly, the table runner is complete.  auditioning for a binding...
...this wins!

Life, and of Course, Sewing ~

One month since I posted...and there has been some sewing mixed in with fun, work, and life.

  • Easy Street is fixed! ...haven't picked a border or backing yet....

  • Quick flannel baby blanket for a co-worker. Her little boy Hunter made his debut today!

  • I quilted and bound 2 table runners for my dear friend Ginny, but somehow only got a picture of the simple one...they both were reversible. Also made a pillowcase for her I Spy quilted last year ~

  • Sewing along with online friend Terry again. I hope to make a quilt, but wanted to try this in a table runner first. Need to pick a binding.
 my charm square pack
 quilted last night!
~ the back ~
  • Remember my checkerboard blocks back in November? Some have made it into a quilt for a wedding gift. Rajeana grew up with my dd Lydia, so a couple of the scrappy pieces are actually from Lydia's clothing of the past, I think 'Jeana recognized one of the pieces. The backing is made and this one is next on the frame....

  • My sweet honey is in the Philippines for a missions trip with the church. It's his 3rd time to go, he is so excited. I have a constant pang of missing my Larry, but it is a perfect reminder to lift the team in prayer.
  •
  • Oh, and just before he left, he had to file for unemployment...work has slowed down at his job  :-(
  •
  •
  • I have found a bit of time to play with that new "toy", the Accuquilt Go!
  •
  •
  •
  • What I didn't share, it was purchased for me with gift certificates from my class!!
  •
  •
  •
  •
  •   Larry bought a couple dies I wanted-fun!
  •
  • Last, a late-posted photo of my sweet second graders in their Nativity program. They memorized and recited "Luke 2, The Christmas Story."
 I love these kiddos!

"He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might He increaseth strength. Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall: But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint." Isaiah 40:29-31
